Meet the Artist
I first became obsessed with henna waaaaaaay back in 2001. I was on holiday in Egypt with my mum and my grandparents, rocking my floral dungarees and living with the haircut my mum had given me with the kitchen scissors (thanks, mum).

To this day I still remember how it felt to wear that flower on my arm. I paraded around the playground wearing it like a badge of honour. I felt special, and - despite my kitchen-scissors haircut - I felt beautiful.

Six years later, I met Meena. She was an artist, entrepreneur, and my first henna mentor. She showed me how to source, make and work with natural henna, and she showed me the basics of running a business. The lessons I learned with her would go on to become the foundations of Joyful Henna Isle of Man.
But the most important thing she showed me was that I could be that little girl with the flower on her arm again. I could recreate that feeling.
Only now, instead of parading around the playground I get to rock my henna in offices, coffee shops, and at parties.
Wearing henna makes me feel powerful, and now it’s my pleasure to bring that feeling to women across the Isle of Man.

I hope to see you soon!

My henna journey
From there to here
2019
Joyful Henna Isle of Man
It took three months, hundreds of messages, and a lot of tears, but in January 2019 I launched my
new business.
2017
Miss Isle of Man Community Challenge 2017
I used henna to help raise over £6,000 in under 4 months, and in doing so I rediscovered my passion.
2007
I did my first ever henna!
Well we all gotta start somewhere! This amazing henna was the start of my henna journey with Meena.
2010
My first UK Festival
I had such an amazing time being part of Meena's team at V Festival. I swear I wore that festival band for a month or more...
2012-2015
Artist At Work
Over the next few years I would work alongside Meena and her team under Manai, bringing henna to
fairs and festivals island-wide.
2018
Henna by Joy
I finally joined Instagram and spent a year at festivals and fairs around the island. My love for henna was back and it was here to stay.
2015-2017
Artist MIA
You know that thing called life? It gets in the way. I gradually drifted away from henna until I was
officially Missing In Action.
2011
My First Solo Festival
3 years after starting my henna journey, I made my way back to the festival where it all began to work as a solo artist for the first time.
2008
My First Local Festival
In mid-2008 I started working with clients at festivals alongside Meena. So much of what I learned during
that time still sticks with me today.
2001
I got my first ever henna!
I promise I was a lot happier than I look - it was hot, I was tired, and I still hadn't forgiven my mother for cutting my hair...
